Description

Carved wooden advertising sign. Very early, wonderfully carved relief of running Bibendum, cigar in mouth, with hand carved wooden smoke trailing out behind him! The quality of carving is very professional, and the item was doubtless done for Michelin. Type of wood is unknown – likely pine. Evidence  of repair to crack in background, with some darkening from the glue. One or two minor scuffs on Bibendum. I bought this in the South of France a gillion years ago, and have never seen another one. (Tires /Transport /Advertising characters /Cars /Auto /Tobacco)
