Description

Born on Norway, Gulbransun immigrated to Germany as a young man, and quicky became one of the Germany’s best known satirical illustrators, doing much of his work for the famous magazine Simplicissimus. This lithograph advertises an annual student fest for the Art Academy of Munich in February of 1933, held in the huge Schwabinger Brewery and beer hall. Student revelers in the image sport the very latest American Cool – the Duncan yo-yo (or, in German ‘Jo-Jo’). Gulbransun was a professor at the Academy and includes a wonderful self portrait in this design, as the class clown in the foreground. Mint overall, virtually as new, on linen.
