Description
A very well-proportioned and handsome pen and ink drawing of the great ironclad which was the reference Teddy Roosevelt implied when he stated “speak softly, carry a big stick”. It was the ship which was the main battleship against the Spanish fleet which was destroyed in the Philippines in 1900 in an extraordinary early morning raid. The drawing may well have been done from life and is well-detailed. Rear tear, long ago invisibly mended on left side. Tear on the right side also mended. On very heavy vellum stock.
