Description

Original woodcut announcement Valloton personally designed for his 1894 poster and print exhibition at the most famous of Belle Epoque galleries, Eduard Sagot, in Paris.   Boldly printed in black, showing an excited mob of collectors rushing to gaze upon a freshly stuck poster – which the mob overshadows, feverish to see the work of one of the most famous Impressionist era artists. This was done during the initial stages of a short (ca.1893 – 1903) international, upper class mania for poster collecting. Some collections numbered 60,000 examples. (Fine Art /Impressionism /Poster Mania /Affische /Art Nouveau) The announcement is beautifully printed on light tan stock with two minuscule lower corner nicks, but otherwise overall super clean.
