Description

Montage of spotter and fighter planes. Flip up answer lower left.

Irving Miller was a graphic designer with a rare Futuristic eye. He headed the Office of War Information Graphics Division for a time after replacing Ben Shahn, where Shahn’s dark taste in propaganda creation also created a great deal of tension at the division, which culminated in “fist fights” according to Miller.

I don’t understand why Irving Miller was not seen as one of the great graphic designers of the 20th century. His taste is easily as distinctive and recognizable as Lester Beall’s. He was an extraordinary designer, somehow lost in the sea of history. Mint.
