Description

Joseph Gazan (1891-1985) was a Post-Impressionist era caricaturist who became famous during the Beaux Arts period after World War I. This suite of 12 lithos with personal notations show caricatures of Parisian types AEF Army officers etc. Included is one unquestionably original drawing, a somewhat bizarre image of an American officer admiring a young girl in the street with her dog in tow. The entire folio is housed in a beautifully handmade gilt and leather-labeled, stringed portfolio. Lithographs all in near mint condition, often mounted on rather mediocre quality backing boards. Original drawing is unmounted and free. The strings are disconnected in the closure of the folio. Portfolio is otherwise in very fine and near mint condition. An impressive group.
