The original design incised in aluminum showing Cassandre’s Dubonnet man atop a wooden base. I do not know if this ever had a real glass or metal insert in it to begin with. The only image I have ever seen of the original Cassandre design was a photo from Cassandre’s son’s biography which showed this ashtray with no insert, filled with Cassandre’s cigarette butts in his studio. Nonetheless, this one is rare. I doubt many survived the war. This was a very early version, to the American market. (Art Deco /Modernism /Drinking /Aperitif /Prewar Design /Spirits /Tobacco) Near mint-mint.
