Description

Katana Cottage City, Oak Bluffs. Vineyard Highlands. This extraordinarily rare possibly unique large broadside was painstakingly restored by Sei Petersen and his staff. It announced the transition of Martha’s Vineyard and the area from the demise of whaling to the beginning of the tourist industry, and its significance cannot be underrated. I bought this broadside 40 or more years ago at auction. The folio also contained the first Edison poster for his “talking machine” which I sold to the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C.  This broadside is without question a museum quality item. (Massachusetts /Resort /Whaling /New England /Islands /Tourism /Real Estate)  Near mint on Japan paper and linen.
