Description

Advertises a magazine promoting ground zero for the Belle Epoque movement. At a center for most of Paris’s artists and bohemians. DeThomas was best known for his stage sets for theater and opera and was a friend of Lautrec’s and his influence is strongly seen in this design. Of the thousands of French turn of the century posters we have sold over the years, I cannot recall a single one of them actually saying “Montmartre”. This poster is often seen in reproduction on places like Pinterest but this is absolutely the only original I have ever seen. It is certainly rare. Faint past folio folds. Expert restoration to small areas and at lower right corner, some flaking and tack holes lower left corner, light edge wear to left side margin. Overall very fine and mounted on heavy rice paper.
