Description

Tempera and gouache on paper. A dramatic highly expressive painting depicting a wonderfully macabre scene of a skeleton reaching for food on a table teeming with flies. In the foreground is a swill bucket and garbage, also covered with flies. I acquired this several decades ago from a highly advanced Third Reich collector in Detroit and only recently re-discovered it. The collector insisted to me that this art was originally from a German P.O.W. lumber reclaimation camp in Northern Michigan. Regrettably, I have no further information. An exceptional piece of naive art! (Health/ Prison/ Insects/ Horror/ Hygene/ Wehrmacht) Some edge breaks and minor edge crumpling, but overall vivid and fresh.
