Description

“Bismark Strasse 10 (Berlin)”. A dramatic Expressionist lithograph showing an elegant gentleman lovingly holding an open volume next to his altar of books with huge volumes of classics towering beside him. This is certainly among the most elegant and unusual posters dedicated to the book we have ever seen. It is incredibly well printed with rich blacks, a touch of reds, and bold gilt letters. We know very little about the artist other than having seen several other of his Expressionist works, and that he worked in Berlin during the early days of the Weimar Republic. Rare. Expert restoration to a few past tears at left edge, virtually invisible, and in the margin only. Overall near-mint and quite fresh on linen. Was 2700
